Root
canal therapy (endodontics) treats disorders of the nerve
(pulp) of the tooth. During the procedure, the pulp is removed,
and then the interior of the root is cleaned, disinfected,
reshaped, and filled. The outside of the tooth then receives
a crown to protect its weakened outer surface and restore
biting efficiency.
